Relationships. These are tough and as a teen mom, there can be some extra drama in your life now that there is a baby in the middle of you and the baby daddy or a new someone special.

Do you think you know everything there is about guys and relationships? Or, do you sti...ll have questions that revolve around what they are thinking, why they said what they did, why they stared at you funny (or what is up with the stuff they do?)?

Why...
***didn't they support me when I needed someone to stand up for me?
***won't they share their thoughts about the future?
***why don't they seem to share the same hopes as/for me and what I want to accomplish?
***WHY DON'T THEY TALK? Seriously! (Oh, and "nothing," don't even go there.)

Join us on Tuesday, January 24th, to hear a panel of people talk about their relationships as a teen mom. They have been in your shoes...some have even walked very similar lives as you and maybe have even had more hurdles in their life that they are still working on mastering.

Wendy's Night with Teen MOPS! Join us on January 25th from 5 - 8 pm at the 55th Street NW location. Drive-thru, dine-in or carry-out!

A portion of the sales during this time will go towards the Teen MOPS program in Rochester, MN. Don't forget to tell your family and friends on Facebook...every penny helps!

Teen MOPS is a ministry at Christ Community Church that provides a support group and resources for teen moms and teens that are pregnant. This group has met over 100 teens in the past 7 years and offers a free meal for the teens and their children, an atmosphere that is teen friendly, a store that is open for the teens to shop in each month, free childcare during meetings and provides opportunities for the teens to learn how to be the best mom that they can be!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Looking to do a little Christmas shopping still? The MOPShop will be open, for some last minute gifts and... essentials as well. Don't forget, in order to get through everyone's stuff we do have a 50 MOPSBucks max.

Want a chance to earn more MOPSBucks to spend at the meeting? We are preparing for our annual spaghetti dinner and auction fundraiser, and need some girls willing to be interviewed. You have to be able to arrive by 4:30pm, answer a few questions on camera, and wear your teen MOPS shirt. Interested? Make sure to reply to this message and let me know!

This is the last meeting to be eligible for the $50 gift card that will be given away to one lucky person that has brought a friend to Teen MOPS. How can you still get your name in for this drawing? Teen MOPS Nov 8th Meeting

Last meeting we got some great beauty tips. Come and hear another wonderful lady talk about beauty. How much do you love the body you are in?

oh...did I mention...it's the first MOPShop of the year. Woot, woot! Remember, we do have a 50 mopsbucks max on mopshop nights, so don't forget to turn in as many points as you can on those off nights!

Our meal starts at 5:30pm so get there a few minutes before that so you have enough time to check-in and eat. Check in at the registration table and computers by door #3 and join us for a free meal in the gym. Childcare is also available (for free) and will be open around 6pm. We do ask... that all kids that are over 6 weeks old be in the childcare area unless the child is nursing and needs to eat.

Have you brought a friend to Teen MOPS yet? The drawing is back again this year to win $50 just for bringing a friend that is eligible to be part of the Teen MOPS group (which means a teen that is either pregnant or a teen that is still 20 years old by 9/27/2010). If you smell chocolate it is because we also give away candy bars...yep, the full size ones...to those that also bring a friend. Mmmm...chocolate :)

Quick Beauty Tips!

Our speaker tonight, Melissa, gave us some great beauty tips!

* splurge on your foundation if you can...a good foundation is key to a great face
* apply your foundation with a sponge or brush rather than your hands
* do not use bronzer as a powder
* only apply blush to apples of your cheeks then smooth out
* do not over-tweeze eyebrows...good shape can go farther than tons of eye makeup
* where do I put eyeliner?...do NOT put it just on the bottom! always put it on the top, bottom is optional
* accentuate outer areas of the eye
* main things to leave the house with in 5 minutes...eye liner, mascara, blush and lips
* Q-tips are your friend! essential for makeup app...get that mascara off your eyelid without losing your shadow. But use a brush to apply shadow instead.
* mascara...root to tips, 2 apps but not more than 3. Wait too long between and you get crusty tarantula eyes....ewwww.

Teen MOPS meeting October 25th

Join us on Tuesday, October 25th for Teen MOPS! We are going to get to hear about some quick and easy beauty tips, and one lucky gal is going to get her make-up done as the guinea pig. While true beauty is found within, feeling a little frumpy after having a baby or just not having a ton of time to primp doesn't help us feel very pretty.

Our meal starts at 5:30pm so get there a few minutes before that so you have enough time to check-in and eat. Check in at the registration table and computers by door #3 and join us for a free meal in the gym. Childcare is also available (for free) and will be open around 6pm. Teen MOPS is about to begin!!

Are you a teen mom or a teen that is pregnant? Want to be part of a group, feel included AND find some friends that are a lot like you? Join Teen MOPS!

Teen MOPS is a non-profit group that is for teens in the Rochester, MN area. This group meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays starting October 11th from 5:30pm to 7:45pm at Christ Community Church. A meal is provided starting at 5:30pm, free childcare is available for the teens' kids, crafts, speakers and time to talk in smaller groups are also part of our meeting. Teen MOPS also provides a store to shop at which is open once a month. Money (or MOPSBucks) are earned by developing those "mom" skills by writing in a journal, taking kids to well-checks, reading to your child, going to parks and other fun activities for teens and/or kids. What else does Teen MOPS offer? Free diapers, free t-shirt, free book called "Life Interrupted" written by Tricia Goyer and support is provided to teens by the leaders and teens that are part of the Teen MOPS group.

There is no cost to be part of Teen MOPS...so try it and see what you think. Bring a friend or someone that you want to tag along with and join us at Teen MOPS this year!

Rides are available...just call Jenni at 951-2843 by noon the day prior to the Teen MOPS meeting.

July 27 Pool & Park CANCELLED

I am bummed to see another pool and park outing cancelled due to this lovely Minnesota weather. Looking for something to do? Head down to Galaxy 14 Theatre (Wehrenberg - 4340 Maine Ave SE) for a FREE family movie - Legend of the Guardians. It starts at 10am, but at least it's out of the rain!

Remember, FREE family movies will also be showing this Saturday at 10am at Cinemagic Hollywood 12...The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

And keep your eyes posted for the August summer events! We are getting ready for a BBQ!

Bonfire & food at Lori’s. 7pm - 10pm. Bring your friends, kids and enjoy some time with Teen MOPS friends! 1431 20th Street NE, Byron. Directions...Hwy 14 to Cty Rd 3. Take a right on Cty Rd 3. Drive until you get to 20th Street and take a left. Brown and Brick rambler.

July 13th
Soldier’s Field Park and Pool 11am. Bring your own sack lunch and drinks. We will lunch at the park and goof off for a little while before the pool opens at Noon. Small snacks and water/juices while at the pool will be provided. Cost to get into the pool is $3 per person (pd to Jenni). RSVP to Jenni by July 4th. In case of rain or below 70 degree air temp, pool outing will be cancelled.

Donations will be accepted at the address above on May 22nd 1-3 pm, May 26th 6-8pm, at Christ Community Church during the weekend services of June 4th & 5th (look for a truck!) and June 12 1-4pm. Stay Out of the Sun Run

Teen MOPS wants to encourage YOU to be part of this event! Just a few more days to register and the first 500 people to register get a t-shirt. Registrations are getting close to this number so register soon. If participating, you need to be registered by the Teen MOPS meeting on May 10th and let Jenni Bertschinger know at the meeting. There is a 5k walk (which you can bring strollers), 5k run and 10k run. Wear your Teen MOPS shirt at the event and participate that night and Teen MOPS will pay for half of your registration fee. You must pay up front though and register with the SOS organization.

It's a Teen MOPS night!

We have a few great things planned for you and a MOPS Opp in this message! Plus...at the April 26th Teen MOPS meeting...you will earn an additional 10 MOPSBucks just for being at the meeting! Check-in starts at 5:30pm at Christ Community Church by door #3.

First...ever have a legal question that you would like advice on? A representative from Legal Services will be at Teen MOPS and will share their knowledge with you. Bring your questions and be ready to learn a little bit about what Legal Services has to offer you!

Second...the MOPShop is open, again! This MOPShop is a little bit different that our usual store. This is a special MOPShop and we like to call it...Thrift Night! Get those MOPSBucks earned and be ready to get some bargains! Teen MOPS receives lots of used items that are in great shape but not new enough to put in the MOPShop. Thrift Night features those items that we receive and is a variety of toys, clothes, shoes, household items and much more. You could say that this is similar to a garage sale but the quality of items is much better than what you would find at a garage sale. The prices are cheap...cheap...cheap! Many items are 2/$1!

Teen MOPS will be giving away a $50 gift card to Target on May 24th to one teen that has brought a friend to Teen MOPS between January until the end of May. Find your friends that are eligible to be part of Teen MOPS and get them to be at one of the meetings that we have left so you have a chance to win!

MOPS Opp...sign. In this photo is a Teen MOPS mom from a few years ago that held up a sign that said "Better Moms Make A Better World". This photo was taken outside of one of the Mayo buildings. For this MOPS Opp, make a sign that is very easy to read that says, "Better Moms Make A Better World", go to a public place in Rochester that can be recognized in your picture and have your picture taken with your sign. This MOPS Opp is worth 15 MOPSBucks. To earn the MOPSBucks, you must either post the photo on the Teen MOPS of Rochester, MN Facebook page or e-mail it to mominmn@gmail.com by April 25th at noon.

MOPS Opp: Your Dream Job

Having a kid costs some money. Diapers, wipes, food, formula, toys, crib, car seat...the list just keeps going and growing as your little one grows. Just when you think you have enough clothes, your child will hit a growth spurt and need some more pants.

Money is a good thing to have when you have a child and the best way to get that money is by working.

Here are a few questions to answer for this MOPS Opp. Write these down along with your answers and attach it to your MOPSBucks form at the meeting on March 8th to earn 15 MOPSBucks.

It's a Scavenger Hunt...Teen MOPS Style!

Want to earn some MOPSBucks and have a little bit of fun?

First. Grab a friend from Teen MOPS. There isn't a maximum amount of people that can be part of this scavenger hunt but there has to be at least 2 teens from Teen MOPS in a group. If you have given rides to other Teen MOPS teens, maybe think about calling up those friends to see if they want to be part of this adventure. If you get rides from others or don't have a car...find a friend to go on this adventure with!

Second. Read through the list of places and clues. Pick at least 5. At least 2 teens from Teen MOPS must be in each picture. This may require you to ask a stranger to take your photo if there are just 2 of you.

Third. Submit your scavenger hunt to Teen MOPS. Either e-mail your photos to Jessica at mominmn@gmail.com or post them on the Teen MOPS of Rochester, MN Facebook page along with the names of the teens who participated and the places that you went.

Finally. Finish this scavenger hunt by March 5th at midnight. Each person in a picture will earn 10 MOPSBucks...so, you could earn up to 50 MOPSBucks total.

Scavenger Hunt.
1) At the RPL there is a large, glass container that holds a very famous swimming creature. Well, at least this swimming creature is famous on the big screen and in Sydney. Take a photo next to this swimming creature. Make a sign to hold up in your photo that states the name of this creature on the big screen.

2) A very popular sandwich place in town has 2 great locations. Right now there are a lot of ads about this company on the radio and on tv. You may just freak when you eat one of these sandwiches. Take a photo with one person eating a sandwich from this establishment and also standing next to one of the very funny signs that is located throughout the restaurant. There are lots to choose from...just pick one and make sure it is visible in the photo.

3) For several years, Teen MOPS has done a fundraiser that amazingly has raised quite a bit of money for this organization. People drop off stuff, people shop for stuff and there were even a few hot dogs and cookies that were eaten throughout the years. Last year we did not do this fundraiser but this summer it is coming back in full force but in a new location. Take a photo at the home where this fundraiser took place (it's ok to even park in the driveway if you need to or stand in the yard if that is what you need to do to get a great picture!).

4) MOPS International not only has a group for teens but also groups for those classic moms...the ones a little older than you. Just because there is an age difference it doesn't mean that these moms don't need help too. Rochester seems to always be having a growth spurt with new little ones around and new mommies as well. Take a photo in front of a sign that shows a location where a MOPS group meets in Rochester. Only exception is...you can't pick Christ Community Church. Yes, we know...there is a Teen MOPS group and 2 classic MOPS groups that meet at this church...venture out a bit though and find another place in town that cares about moms and their needs.

5) RCTC is a busy place during the week. People coming and going. Lots of learning going on and minds expanding. Take a picture in front of a sign for this very studious location. In the picture you must also show a sign that you made that indicates what you want to be when you grow up...what you are striving to become and feel that you would love to do.

6) Two places in town carry gently used items that are for sale that you can buy for your kids. Lots of great bargains at these places, especially for kids that grow pretty fast (which they all do)! Find one of these two locations and take a photo in front of their building. Make sure that their sign is in the picture or at least a logo from a shopping bag or sign on a door is visible so we know what the building is.

7) One our most popular fundraisers is coming up on April 8th! Yummy food, auction items that are for sale and a few of you will be featured on the big screen talking about Teen MOPS. It is a fun and exciting night and we raise a lot of money for Teen MOPS through this event. Did I mention the food? How yummy it is? Take a photo of the place where we get the food from for this event. Stand in front of the building by the stone that indicates who the manager is...recognize that last name at all?

8) This is a fun place for kids! Animals to look at, fish to feed, bees to watch, birds to view, turtles to talk to, paths to walk...and it's all FREE! If you were part of the Rochester School District when you were younger you probably went here as a child...they only open up a certain part of this place for the school kids and for special programs that are advertised. Take a picture standing by the life-size T-Rex skull model.

9) Med-city...that's the nickname that a lot of people give Rochester. This spring/summer, Teen MOPS will be participating in some Med-city activities...including a few races. Go to a track in town and take a picture of you walking or running on that track. On your mark, get set, go!

10) Life is full of choices. Each day you make tons of choices with what you eat and what you feed your child. A healthy lunch or dinner includes 1 grain, 1 protein, 2 fruits or vegetables or combination of the two and a glass of milk. Take a picture of your healthy lunch or dinner that you make with you standing or sitting by it. Then...enjoy!

Teen MOPS is a ministry at Christ Community Church that provides a support group and resources for teen moms and teens that are pregnant. This group has met over 80 teens in the past 5 years and offers a free meal for the teens and their children, an atmosphere that is teen friendly, a store that is open for the teens to shop in each month, free childcare during meetings and provides opportunities for the teens to learn how to be the best mom that they can be!

Relationships. The good, the bad and the oh, so ugly. Lots of great questions were shared at our last Teen MOPS meeting and now we will be digging a little deeper in our topic of relationships. A couple will be sharing their relationship us...they are younger, have a child and the wife may be a familiar face to some of you. Hear their story and how their relationship has been a success and learn a few tips for your relationship.

As always...free meal, free childcare! MOPShop will also be open and will have some new clothes for kids ages 2 and up and also feature household items which include decorations for your kids' rooms!

Teen MOPS Meeting, January 25th. Relationships!

So, you think you know everything there is about guys and relationships? Or, do you still have days and thoughts that revolve around what they are thinking, why they said what they did, why the stared at you funny (or why they even wore that horrible outfit today?)? Why didn't they support me when I needed someone to stand up for me? I know that they have thoughts about their future, but why don't they seem to share those same hopes for me and what I want to accomplish? Why don't they talk? Seriously! I have tons to say but the common word they mutter is "nothing".

Relationships. These are tough and as a teen mom, there can be some extra drama in your life now that there is a baby in the middle of you, the baby daddy or even with a new someone special. A baby is now in the picture as you have a relationship with your family. You are a mom but is there someone else that is trying to parent your child that you are having some issues with? Maybe everything is great in this area but you are now ready to venture on your own and you are feeling like this may hurt the relationship with a family member.

Join us on Tuesday, January 25th, to hear a panel of people talk about their relationships as a teen mom. They have been in your shoes...some have even walked very similar lives as you and maybe have even had more hurdles in their life that they are still working on mastering.

Looking to do a little Christmas shopping still? Teen MOPS will have the MOPShop open and will be featuring toys this month. What better way to get a few gifts for your child than through the MOPShop! Other items will also be available to purchase that night including Christmas decorations, wrapping paper, diapers, wipes, clothing and other baby essentials.

This is the last meeting to be eligible for the $50 gift card that will be given away to one lucky person that has brought a friend to Teen MOPS. How can you still get your name in for this drawing? Bring a friend that is eligible for Teen MOPS...pretty simple! You will get a candy bar and get your name in the drawing.

Arrive a little early and get first dibs on the food. Check-in starts at 5:30pm and the food will be available to start eating shortly after you all start arriving! Hopefully this will give you a chance to eat and get your kids fed before our meeting starts in the Warehouse.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Wow, is there a lot of snow on the ground tonight...with more to come.

This past week my kids and I learned about the beginning of the story about Christmas. The angel Gabriel came to visit Joseph and Mary...Jesus' dad and mom. The angel had a purpose during this Christmas season and is actually part of the Christmas story in several different places. At the start though it had something specific on it's to-do list...to communicate to Mary and Joseph that they were going to have a baby. Instead of looking to see if you had blue lines on a stick, imagine an angel telling you that you were going to have a baby.

For this MOPS Opp...go outside and either have you or your child make a snow angel. It is simple and we have the snow to do this. Make sure you take a photo and either post it to the Teen MOPS of Rochester Facebook page, e-mail it to mominmn@gmail.com or post it to your Facebook page but also sending a message to mominmn@gmail.com to let a Teen MOPS leader know to find it there. You will earn 10 MOPSBucks for this activity. Finish this activity by December 10th.

Thanksgiving is…just a few days away. I can’t believe I will be eating turkey and pie soon! Christmas is also just around the corner and I remember how excited I was for my first child to be part of this holiday. She even had a special outfit just to wear for Christmas Day!

I knew my daughter wouldn’t understand or even have the skills to open up gifts or know what it meant to be with family. I did know that this was just the start of many years of holiday traditions that I would get to share with her. I also knew that now that I was a mom, our holidays would look a little different than they did in the past.

Our family travels a lot over the holidays. We live the farthest away from all of our family so we are the lucky ones to pack everything in the car and go on some wonderful tours of the wintery Midwest. Have you heard the words “over the river and through the woods to Grandmothers house we go.” Yeah…that would be our family…only in a minivan. In fact, we drive over 1,830 miles between November and the end of December. That is a lot of time on the road with a 9 year old, 5 year old and 3 year old!

When our kids were smaller we were traveling early on Christmas mornings, late sometimes on Christmas Eve or even at times when we were so stressed from winter conditions that we should have just stayed home.

My husband and I decided that on Christmas Day, we wanted our kids to wake up and have Christmas morning at our house. This is something that we desire for our kids and we want them to experience this magical morning in our own home. We read the Christmas story together from the Bible, we open up gifts, we have a special breakfast and we just enjoy being together as a family. No stress from seeing if we would arrive at our destination on time, no stress from being in the car, no stress from wondering if we forgot something important.

Christmas morning is now our special family time. This is a time that we have set aside and made into our own family memory. Becoming a mom helped me realize the importance of needing to make this day special for just our kids. Other family members are welcome to join us on this memorable morning but usually…it is just my kids, my husband and me.

For this MOPS Opp, just answer the questions below and turn in with you to the Teen MOPS meetings in November or December 2010. 10 MOPSBucks will be given for completing this MOPS Opp.
1. Now that you are a mom (or soon will be seeing the face of your little one), what is one thing that you are thinking you may need to do a little differently this holiday season?
2. What is the reason for you wanting this change?
3. Every family has different traditions this time of year. Is there a tradition that your family does that you think that you no longer want to do now that you are a mom? Is there a tradition that you want to continue so your child can experience it as well?
4. Your family or support system may not always agree with your decision on changes that you are wanting to incorporate into your Thanksgiving or Christmas season. How will you handle any negative attitudes that you may be confronted with as a result of your decision?

Teen MOPS Meeting on Tuesday, November 23rd

Teen MOPS will be meeting on Tuesday, November 23rd at Christ Community Church.

Join us as we have a great speaker join us for the night and talk about goal setting. We also have a fun craft for you that night.

Our meal will be starting off at 5:45pm. Join us a little earlier and you may even get a chance to start eating, get your little ones fed and off to MOPPETS before our meeting gets going in the Warehouse.

Bring a friend that is eligible for Teen MOPS and get entered into the drawing to win $50...and take home some chocolate! Just a few more meetings before the first drawing.

We have a few new changes and reminders to you about Teen MOPS...
1) remember to check in at the computers when you arrive. Grab your name tag for yourself and for your child.
2) Fill out the MOPSBucks form at the registration table by the computers that you check in at. Leave your pink folders if you have done any of the 4u2 Try activities or have a journal entry.
3) We had a lot of kids in the Warehouse at our last meeting and a lot of MOPPETS (workers) without kids to play with, talk to, feed or tell stories too. Please remember that we do love to see your kids but the Warehouse time is for you, a time for everyone in Teen MOPS to listen to the speaker, give them all of our attention and focus and not have any distractions. We do ask that all kids that are over 6 weeks old be placed in the MOPPETS area while we have our meeting in the Warehouse. If you are breastfeeding your child, the MOPPETS workers will communicate with you when your child is hungry. If your child is sleeping, there are many rooms and places for your child to finish up their nap in the MOPPETS area as well. Give yourself time to relax and also give your friends at Teen MOPS a chance to be able to focus during our time in the Warehouse as well. If you do have questions about MOPPETS, the coordinator, Karen, would be happy to talk with you and answer any questions that you may have.

We had a great night last night at our Scrapbooking and Chick Flick event! We had a few teens who participated and were there for our fun in the Warehouse. You all get MOPSBucks and these will be added to your account for you!

Look at Me

Life has changed a ton for the American women in the last 10, 20, 50 years. Even in the last 100 years. Do you think a woman that was living 100 years ago would be able to handle all of the media attention that is being given to how women look today?

Life has changed for the better, in many ways. We don't have to wash our clothes by scrubbing them with our hands. We don't have to ride a horse to get somewhere. But, we do have Victoria Secret models flashing their entire bodies with little to be exaggerated right in front of our men not only in stores but also now on TV. We do have magazines of gorgeous women that appear to have zero flaws staring at us as we are checking our groceries. We do have the internet and all the glory that this media holds...where at a click of a button you can find naked women or countless articles on how to be better visually in so many different areas.

For this MOPS Opp just think about the following questions and then bring the answers to the Teen MOPS meeting on Tuesday, November 9th. This is worth 15 MOPSBucks.

1. What type of struggle have you had with how you look? Was it an eating disorder, weight problem, comparing yourself with others, pride, etc.?

2. Describe how you feel when you see an advertisement that features a woman that appears to be perfect.

3. The world focuses so much on outward appearances. Name 5 companies that you feel are exploiting the image of the perfect woman rather than show how unique each human body truly is.

4. How will you show your child that the value of who we are is not based on looks in this society that is focused on perfection?

At the Teen MOPS meeting last night we talked a little bit about identity...who we are.

This MOPS Opp is just a simple, yet fun activity to do either on your own or with your child. There is a dolphin at the Minnesota Zoo that was born over the summer. This dolphin still does not have a name and so the contest is to give the dolphin a name. Not only will you help this dolphin find it's identity but you will also have a chance to win prizes from the Minnesota Zoo! Just follow this link to enter a name for this dolphin. There are even a few photos to look at of the dolphin to help you with this task of giving this animal a name.

To get credit for this MOPS Opp just print off the page that indicates that your entry was received. If you are not 18 years old, you will have to have someone who is over 18 submit this for you since the rules for this activity indicate that you must be 18 years old or older. On the page that you print off also answer the following question...

Q. How did you get your name? Was it a family tradition, a person that someone in your family admired at that time or does your name have any special meaning?

You will get 5 MOPSBucks for this activity. This activity must be done by October 31st. The contest to name the dolphin ends on this date.

Teen MOPS meeting October 26th

Join us on Tuesday, October 26th for Teen MOPS! Our meal starts at 5:45pm so get there a few minutes before that so you have enough time to check-in and eat.

We have had a great number of Teen MOPS moms join us this year and we want to celebrate...with a little Zumba! Yep...dress in some comfy clothes, wear your tennis shoes and be ready for a little workout. (You may even want to bring a towel to dry off) Tie up that hair and get ready to move! Yes, we know that some of you are pregnant and you are still welcome to join us...just use your common sense to know your limit of what you can and can not do during this Teen MOPS meeting.

Check in at the registration table and computers by door #3 and join us for a free meal in the gym. Childcare is also available (for free) and will be open around 6pm. We do ask that all kids that are over 6 weeks old be in the childcare area unless the child is nursing and needs to eat.

Have you brought a friend to Teen MOPS yet? The drawing is still open to win $50 just for bringing a friend that is eligible to be part of the Teen MOPS group (which means a teen that is either pregnant or a teen that is still 20 years old by 9/28/2010). MOPS Opp #4

Today I visited a fun place to go that is very kid friendly! Quarry Hill is a local attraction that has great trails and animals that you look at that kids love.

For this MOPS Opp, visit Quarry Hill anytime between now and Sunday, October 24th. Take a photo of you looking at the big fish tank in order to earn 10 MOPSBucks. There are also other fun adventures at Quarry Hill this weekend...attend one of these events for an additional 5 MOPSBucks. To get the extra MOPSBucks, take a picture of yourself in the cave with the decorated pumpkins. Photos should be e-mailed to mominmn@gmail.com or brought to the Teen MOPS meeting on October 26th.

Friday, October 22nd and Saturday, October 23rd. A non-threatening Halloween event that is fun for parents and children age 4 and older. The evening program includes a guided hike through the Quarry Hill woods and cave. Along the hike, participants will encounter the 'Creatures of the Night' costumed characters, including a great-horned owl, skunk, and raccoon. New this year, the cave will also feature the "Pumpkin Promenade", carved pumpkins and decorations leading the way through the cave. The hike wraps up back at the Nature Center with treats for all. The trail is not stroller or dog friendly, and the event is held reain, shine, or snow. Pre-registration required. Hikes start at 4:30 pm with a new hike leaving every 15 minutes, with the last hike at 8:15 pm. Spots fill fast, call today to reserve yours. Fee: $7 per person ($6 per Friends Members)

Halloween is just around the corner! We may have found the perfect little costume for our child to wear this year...parade them around the neighborhood, school or to our different friends for them to see how cute our kids are! Or, maybe you found the perfect outfit to wear this year...and you want to show it off in the neighborhood. :)

I have seen a few teens that I know...some part of Teen MOPS and others are just teens that I am related to or friends with...that tend to act one way around me and yet show themselves as a totally different person when I am not around. It is almost as if they have this mask that they wear around certain people, switch masks when they are working, put on a different mask that is "church appropriate" when they are at Teen MOPS and maybe a totally different mask when they are talking with friends on Facebook or while they are on the phone or texting. Maybe in front of their family they have another mask that is reserved just for those special family functions or when they walk through the door and see their mom, dad or guardian.

Do you have a mask...or maybe even a few?

For this MOPS Opp I want you to take a few minutes and think about the person that you are actually portraying to others in a few different situations. Think hard and try to figure out or see if this person is the same in all these situations or if you change your mask depending on who you are around or the setting that you are in. Below are some situations and some questions. Write down in a few words the person that you are portraying and describe who that person is with a few different characteristics. If one of these doesn't apply to you just write N/A. Here are a few examples of characteristics: strong, shy, scared, smart, powerful, inferior, inquisitive, etc.

It's Fire Prevention Week. For this MOPS Opp you get to help educate yourself and your child about fire safety. All 5 fire stations are open from 6pm - 8pm in Rochester, MN on Tuesday, October 5th...Wednesday, October 6th...or Thursday, October 7th. Activities include fire truck and equipment displays, fire extinguisher demonstrations, home fire safety talks, Sparky the Fire Dog, the kids fire hose target house and fire hats for the kids.

To get credit for this MOPS Opp, take a picture of you and/or your child at one of the Fire Stations in town during Fire Prevention Week. Be sure to either stand by a sign so we can see that it is the fire station or by a fire truck or fireman. Bring the photo with you at the next Teen MOPS meeting on October 12th or e-mail by October 10th at 5pm to mominmn@gmail.com with MOPS Opp #2 as the subject.

Wanted to send you all a little ray of sunshine since we have had so many dark and gloomy (and rainy) days! So, what is the sunshine? Teen MOPS Kick-off is in 4 days!!!!! The waters should be going down at that point and roads getting back to normal. Hope you can all make it to this fun night we have planned for you!

Hearing that a teenager has taken his own life is not only devastating
to hear but when he is a close friend, it can also be hard to tackle
the day to day tasks and the questions of "why?". Teen MOPS sends out
our sympathies to all of you that knew Colton. We also want to make sure that you are ok... that you have someone you can talk with if you need to. Q. I keep hearing the word MOPShop...what is that?
A. The MOPShop is a store where the teens that are part of Teen MOPS can shop. We don't use real money but use Teen MOPS money...called MOPSBucks. In the MOPShop you can find clothes for kids, diapers, wipes, baby essentials like bottles, pacifiers, lotion, soap, ...etc. There are also toys, books, car seats, cribs, pack n plays, changing tables and even some items for teens and home essentials. MOPSBucks are earned in many different ways but a few of those are...coming to Teen MOPS, reading to your child, going to well checks, showing proof of your grades that are above a specific letter, bringing a friend to Teen MOPS, providing a ride to another Teen MOPS mom for the meetings, etc.

Are you a teen mom or a teen that is pregnant? Want to be part of a group, feel included AND find some friends that are a lot like you? Join Teen MOPS!

Teen MOPS is a non-profit group that is for teens in the Rochester, MN area. This group meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays starting September 28th from 5:45pm to 7:45pm at Christ Community Church. A meal is provided starting at 5:45pm, free childcare is available for the teens' kids, crafts, speakers and time to talk in smaller groups are also part of our meeting. Teen MOPS also provides a store to shop at which is open once a month. Money (or MOPSBucks) are earned by developing those "mom" skills by writing in a journal, taking kids to well-checks, reading to your child, going to parks and other fun activities for teens and/or kids. What else does Teen MOPS offer? Free diapers, free t-shirt, free book called "Life Interrupted" written by Tricia Goyer and support is provided to teens by the leaders and teens that are part of the Teen MOPS group.

There is no cost to be part of Teen MOPS...so try it and see what you think. Bring a friend or someone that you want to tag along with and join us at Teen MOPS this year!

Rides are available...just call Jenni at 951-2843 by noon the day prior to the Teen MOPS meeting.

Soldier’s Field Park and Pool 11am on Wednesday, June 23rd. Bring your own sack lunch and drinks. We will lunch at the park and goof off for a little while before the pool opens at Noon. From 8am to 4pm, Carefest will be serving the community by doing volunteer work...this is a great way to make a difference in Rochester! There are 2 opti...ons for Teen MOPS to participate...1) help families participate by providing childcare for their little ones at Christ Community Church, or 2) work together on a site somewhere in the community while your kids are taken care of at Christ Community Church. This is it! This is the last Teen MOPS meeting for 2009/2010. Tuesday, May 25th from 5:15pm -7:15pm at Christ Community Church at 4400 55th Street NW in Rochester, MN!

Hard to believe that our year is coming to an end. Don't worry though...summer is just around the corner and we will still have some kid friendly meetings throughout the summer.

Join us for a Teen MOPS party! We want to celebrate you, what you have accomplished being a teen mom, the milestones that your kids have met this past year and you being a part of Teen MOPS!

We will have some karaoke...yep...get up on stage and sing your favorite song or cheer on your friends as they sing a duet. We know you want to belt it out and this is your chance. You can also take the mic for a moment to say thanks to your friends, to your leaders or just to Teen MOPS in general.

We have pizza coming, ice cream sundaes that you can make with all your favorite toppings and just yummy chocolate...no Teen MOPS meeting can be complete without chocolate!

Summer schedule will be available for you to pick up at the meeting as well.

This is the last MOPShop for the Teen MOPS 2009/2010 year. Bring in those 4u2 Try activities and shop till you drop while you are at the meeting.

Also wanted to say thanks to all of you that helped with the fundraiser for Teen MOPS this past Friday! You all did an awesome job and worked really hard for this event...we are so proud of you! We had lots of teens that helped and lots of teens that earned MOPSBucks for helping out. Those that spoke on stage earned 150 MOPSBucks. Others earned MOPSBucks for holding up the cardboard story while they were on stage and others earned some for serving food, greeting people at the door and we even had some stay very late to help clean up. That was your secret MOPS Opp...who was willing to go above and beyond for Teen MOPS, who was willing to show their dedication to this group and help out so Teen MOPS can get support to reach other teens that are teen moms...no additional MOPS Opps will be available for this last MOPShop other than what was available in the April newsletter and the recipe MOPS Opp that was listed already on the blog and on Facebook.

Join us for one of our last meetings...enjoy a great speaker, a great discussion time and as always...food, free childcare, diapers and doorprizes.

I recently found a great website that not only will save my family money but can save yours money too. Check out this blog that is written by a local woman. It is called www.savingsidebyside.com Using coupons may not be your thing but you can really save lots of money if you take a few moments before yo...u go shopping to find some savings. For this MOPS Opp, go shopping and use at least 3 coupons on your shopping trip. Bring in your receipt to the May 11th meeting that shows your savings with coupons and you will earn 15 MOPSBucks.

Teen MOPS Meeting, April 27th

Only 3 meetings left until it is the end of our regular Teen MOPS meetings for the year! Be sure to make it to our meeting on Tuesday, April 27th from 5:15pm - 7:15pm.

Teen MOPS will be talking about cooking...how to cook some basic meals that are easy, simple and meals that you will like as well as your kids. Convenience foods are great for those times that are limited but creating healthy food habits for your child is important as they continue to grow. You will get to have some samples...yum, yum...and will also get to take home several pages of meals that you can make in your own kitchen. Kids love to help too...pouring in different ingredients, stirring in bowls and shaking in different spices.

We will also be working on some final details for our upcoming fundraisers! We need all your hands, all your faces and your creativity as we work to make this fundraiser a success for your Teen MOPS group.

Tickets are also on sale at the meeting for the upcoming fundraiser...the Teen MOPS Spaghetti Supper & Auction on May 7th. If you need tickets for your family, buy them at the meeting. Tickets do need to be purchased prior to the event. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 2 to 10 and those under 2 years old are free. Teens that are participating in the event will get a free ticket. If you haven't signed up to help that night let us know how you can help out and your ticket will be ready for you.

Remember to bring a friend to Teen MOPS that is either pregnant or has a child already. We only have 1 more MOPShop and those that attend Tuesday that are new will receive their books so they can earn MOPS Bucks before the next MOPShop.

As always, childcare is free and available, there will be a meal for everyone and diapers given away at the end of the night along with some great doorprizes.

Teen MOPS Spaghetti Supper & Silent Auction is May 7th!

Join us to help raise money for Teen MOPS! This is a fun event that is great for kids, families, teens, the young and old. Learn a lot about what Teen MOPS is, see the faces of Teen MOPS, eat some great food and help raise money at the same time.

Tickets are on sale now at Christ Community Church during the week in the office or starting this weekend between church services. You can also e-mail mominmn@gmail.com for more information. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 2 to 10 and kids under 2 are free.

Hope to see you on May 7th! Our night starts at 5:30pm with the program starting at 6:00pm. Betsy Singer will be our Emcee for the evening. Olive Garden will be providing the food once again and we are thrilled to have the support of all those that have donated towards this event.

If you have an item or service that you would like to provide for this event, please either post something on the blog or e-mail mominmn@gmail.com to let us know! All donors need items submitted by April 24th in order to secure their spot of focus in the program. All donations can be tax deductible as well.

Teen MOPS meeting April 13th @ 5:15pm

Join us, Tuesday, April 13th from 5:15pm - 7:15pm at CCC in the Warehouse.

Teen MOPS is about fun and about helping you be the best mom that you can be. What better way to do both of these things than to show you how to have fun with your kids this summer! We will be talking about what is free in the area that you can do with your kids. The weather is getting nicer and now is the time to start exploring the outdoors with your child.

MOPShop will also be open! We will be featuring toys and the spring/summer items at this MOPShop.

As always...free childcare, free diapers, free meal and free fun is always available at Teen MOPS!

MOPS Opp #25

This is a little different but will give you a chance to sum up your Teen MOPS experience in a way that will help others connect with you and learn about Teen MOPS a bit at the same time.
Before the next Teen MOPS meeting, which is on April 13th, think about you, your life and how Teen MOPS has helped you. This doesn't have to be any profound statement but does need to show who you are. Maybe what you were going through before you were pregnant. Maybe what little support system you had prior to Teen MOPS or what few friends you may have had that understood what being a teen mom really meant. It could even be an addiction that you have struggled with, a relationship that has been hard to handle but a conversation that you had with a friend or leader at Teen MOPS helped get you through a rough time in your life.
Think, think hard and then go find a piece of cardboard. On that cardboard write on one side what the struggle was. On the other side write down how a friend at Teen MOPS helped or how Teen MOPS helped you.
Example...side 1...was barefoot and pregnant at the age of 16 and still needed to finish high school. Side 2...enrolled in RCTC for the fall and have a beautiful 2 year old child.
Have these ready for the next meeting and earn 15 MOPSBucks.

It is gorgeous outside! Get outside with your child these next few days and go to a park. Visit Soldier's Field Park which has tons of great toys for your child to play on and climb. Take a picture of your child on your camera or on your phone. Either e-mail the photo to mominmn@gmail.com or bring it to a Teen MOPS meeting in April to show that you were there. You will get 10 MOPSBucks for going to the park and playing. Check out this link for a list of other parks in the Rochester area.

It is Thrift Night at Teen MOPS on Tuesday so here is a way to earn a few more MOPSBucks before the meeting.
Take a piece of paper, write down up to 5 crafts that you would like to do at Teen MOPS over the summer or next year. Each idea that you write is worth 1 MOPSBucks and you can earn a maximum of 5 MOPSBucks. Turn this piece of paper in at the Teen MOPS meeting on March 23rd.

Spa Night at Teen MOPS on March 23rd!

It's Spa Night! ...Teen MOPS style. Tuesday, March 23rd from 5:15pm - 7:15pm at Christ Community Church in Rochester, MN.

Spring is in the air and it is time to paint your toes, relax and take some time to just gab with some friends.

It is also Thrift Night! ...which means, the MOPShop will be open but our inventory is different tonight. We will be selling clothes and other items at much lower prices. Everything is under $5 and most is under $1 or is at a 2 for $1 value! All the items are used but still in great condition. Get those MOPS Opps done, check out the activities in the 4u2 Try booklet, read to your child, bring a friend that is eligible for Teen MOPS and just earn those MOPS Bucks so you can shop and shop big!

As always, we will have diapers for you, a free meal, free childcare and just fun for all you teen moms!
